VIKTOR RYDÉN BARITONE BIOGRAPHY
Viktor Rydén is a young Swedish baritone from Stockholm, praised for his warm, clear timbre and natural stage presence.
In 2026, Viktor sang Il Sagrestano in Puccini’s Tosca at Folkoperan Stockholm, under conductor Henrik Schaefer and director Eirik Stubø. The 2025/26 season also brought him back to the role of Dandini in Rossini’s La Cenerentola at Malmö Opera and Norrlandsoperan, as well as Il Conte in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at Skånska Operan and Zweiter Priester/Zweiter Geharnischter in Die Zauberflöte at Folkoperan Stockholm and Uppsala Stadsteater.
In 2024, he performed the role of Herman in Anders Einarsson’s ”Fotografen” at Vadstena-Akademien.
2023 marked Viktor’s international breakthrough: he made his international debut as Schemariah in the world premiere of Bernhard Lang’s opera ”Hiob” at Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Austria, followed by an invitation to Staatsoper Hamburg to sing in Salvatore Sciarrino’s ”Venere e Adone” under Kent Nagano. The same year he appeared in the courtier trio in La Cenerentola at Folkoperan Stockholm.
Viktor is also a well sought-after concert singer, with a wide repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary works, including Brahms’ and Fauré’s Requiems, Handel’s Messiah, and Bach’s St John Passion and Christmas Oratorio. As a Lied singer, he has performed extensive programs of songs by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Gustav and Alma Mahler, and Korngold.
Earlier engagements include Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and a soloist appearance in ”Operaquiz”, both at Skånska Operan; a choir engagement in Bellini’s Norma at Folkoperan Stockholm; performances at Drottningholms Slottsteater under Marc Minkowski (Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni); and appearances at Musik i Ladan.
Viktor studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (2013–2016) and completed a season at Stockholm Operastudio, before receiving his master’s degree in Lied und Oratorium from the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien in 2022, studying with KS Angelika Kirchschlager and Sebastian Vittucci. During the 2023/24 season he took part in Folkoperan’s Young Artist Program (Talang).
He has been awarded scholarships and prizes from the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, the Marthe Urzander & Lars-Olov Nyhlén fund, SWEA International, the Anny Felbermayer fund, and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
