Markus Pettersson

Markus Pettersson is a young, Swedish tenor with a beautiful, expansive voice and passionate timbre. This season he is engaged at GöteborgsOperan singing Nathanael in The Tales of Hoffmann. He debuted as Max in Der Freischütz (Weber) in the season 2021/22 at the Ringsaker Operaen in Norway, where he previously participated in ”Viva Verdi” followed by the roles Duca, Alfredo and Fenton.

Markus has previously been engaged for several other roles at the Gothenburg Opera; Léonard in La ville morte (Boulanger), Beppe in Pajazzo (Leoncavallo), Fritiof in Fritiof’s saga by the composer Elfrida Andrée with libretto by Selma Lagerlöf, Remendado in Carmen, Mats in Kronbruden by Ture Rangström, Gastone in la Traviata, and Mr Bumble in the musical Oliver, Remendado in Carmen,  Neptune in Idomeneo, a Troubadour in Vikingarna (Hallström) and a young servant in Elektra.

Among other recent roles: Pong in Turandot, Don José in Carmen and Gastone in La Traviata at Folkoperan, Steuermann in Der fliegende Holländer at Opera på Skäret and Rodolfo in La Bohème with Skånska Operan.

Markus has a Bachelor and Masters Degree from the University College of Opera in Stockholm and has also studied for three years at Vadstena College.
