Markus Pettersson, a Swedish tenor with a sonorous, razor-sharp voice containing
both granite and lyricism. The coming season he is set to make his debut as Alfredo
(La Traviata) at Opera Trøndelag and Operaen i Kristiansund, and Edgardo (Lucia di
lammermor) with Skånska Operan. Markus is an experienced, hard working artist
with a broad range and positive attitude.
Recently Markus toured southern sweden with a critically acclaimed production of
Tosca in where he sang 23 performances Cavaradossi in the short span on one and
a half month. He also recently made his debut as Max in Der Freischütz (Weber) at
the Ringsaker Opera in Norway, where he previously participated in ”Viva Verdi” and
then sang Duca, Alfredo and Fenton.

Markus has sung several roles at Göteborgs Operan, such as Léonard in La ville
morte (Boulanger), Beppe in Pajazzo (Leoncavallo), Fritiof in Fritiof’s saga by the
composer Elfrida Andrée with libretto by Selma Lagerlöf, Remendado in Carmen,
Mats in Kronbruden by Ture Rangström, Nathanael in The tales of Hoffmann
(Offenbach) in wich he also made a quick cover for Spalanzani and Gaston in la
Traviata.
Other roles include the debut as Rodolfo in La Bohème with Skånska Operan, Don
José in Carmen with Opera at Österbybruk, Juan in Don Quijote (Massenet), Pong in
Turandot (Puccini), Don José in Carmen and Gaston in La Traviata at the Folkoperan
, Fenton in Falstaff at Läckö Slottsopera and Steuermann in The Flying Dutchman
(Wagner) at Opera på Skäret.
Markus Pettersson is also a frequently hired concert soloist and his repertoire
includes Verdi’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s Creation, Puccini’s Messa di
Gloria and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle. He has also made an appearance
during the Kirsten Flagstad festival and during national day celebrations on Swedish
television. At the Gothenburg Concert Hall, he has performed famous operas in
concert form, including operas such as MacBeth (MacDuff), Le Villi (Roberto) and
Cavalleria Rusticana (Turiddu).
Markus is educated at the University College of Opera in Stockholm (now the
Department of Opera) and has a Bachelor and Master’s degree. He has received
several scholarships and awards such as Jussi Björlingsällskapet’s prize 2015,
scholarships from Marianne and Sigvard Bernadotte’s Artists’ Fund 2013, Bollnäs
Kulturstipendium 2013, William Lind 2012, Anders Wall Confidencen 2012, and
Christina Nilsson 2011.
