Jesper Taube has a long career as a soloist at the Royal Swedish Opera, where he performed many prominent roles as a baritone over 12 years, including the title roles of Figaro in The Barber of Seville, Eugene Onegin, Rigoletto, Posa in Verdi’s Don Carlos and Marcello in La Boheme to name a few.
When Jesper decided to change his voice, a second career began, with tenor roles at the Royal Swedish Opera such as Cavaradossi in Tosca, Calaf in Turandot, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Hoffmann in Hoffmann’s Adventure(Folkoperan), Don José in two productions of Carmen, Laca Klemen in Jenufa and Herod in Salome. In addition to the Royal Swedish Opera, Jesper has sung at most of the stages in Sweden, and made guest appearances in Scandinavia, Europe and in the United States at both opera houses and concert halls.
Season 2024 -2025 Jesper Taube sings Laca in Jenůfa and Beadle in Sweeney Todd at the Royal Swedish Opera. He recently performed the role of Herod in Strauss’s Salome and appeared in the operas The Promise and Ariadne on Naxos.
After graduating from the Royal Opera School, Jesper joined the ensemble of the Royal Swedish Opera, where during his first 12 years he established himself as a lyric baritone in leading roles such as Figaro (The Barber of Seville), Eugene Onegin, Rigoletto and Prince Yeletsky in Queen of Spades, Count Almaviva, Posa in Don Carlo, Ford in Falstaff, Marcello in La Bohème, Belcore in The Love Potion, Guglielmo in Così fan Tutte and much more. On other stages, Jesper has also sung Valentin in Faust, Silvio in Pajazzo, Don Alvaro in Journey to Reims, Wallenberg in the opera about Raoul Wallenberg in Tallinn, and Majesty in the opera Erik XIV in Turku.
In 2013 he sang Cavaradossi in Tosca, followed by Pinkerton, Don José, Hoffmann at the Folkoperan, Calaf, Laça in Jenůfa, Edrisi in King Roger, and the acclaimed Merry Widow. He has been a recurring soloist at Södertälje Opera(Ernani, Merry Widow, ‘Viva Verdi’, ‘Canta Napoli’, Beatrice di Tenda and Attila).
Outside the Royal Swedish Opera and Stockholm, Jesper Taube has sung on many stages in Sweden and around Scandinavia, Europe and the USA. There are several CD recordings with him as a soloist.
Scholarships include the Christina Nilsson Scholarship 1997 & 1998, the Friends of the Drottningholm Theatre 1997, the Henning Sjöström Singers’ Prize 1997, the Carl-Axel Hallgren Scholarship 1998 and the Jussi Björling Scholarship 2009.
