Marta Cecilia Saelöen is a lyrical-dramatic soprano from Landskrona, Sweden. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in music from the School of Music and Opera at Mälardalen University in the spring of 2023. She then continued her advanced opera studies at the same university for two years, where she studied under Lena Hellström-Färnlöf. Marta Cecilia has also studied at Vadstena Academy for Vocal and Piano. This fall, she will join the Malmö Opera Academy under the leadership of Rickard Söderberg.
Most recently, Marta Cecilia portrayed Betty in Jan Sandström’s newly composed opera Stormen Betty, which premiered on June 14, 2024. The role was specially written for Marta Cecilia and her voice. The year before, she sang the roles of Suor Angelica and Lidoine in the production Systrar, a performance that intertwined the operas Suor Angelica and Dialogues des Carmélites.
During her studies, Marta Cecilia performed in several concerts, including with the Chamber Symphony Orchestra of Bergslagen and Västerås Sinfonietta. With Västerås Sinfonietta, she completed three tours with colleagues around Västmanland. She has also performed at Västerås Concert Hall, Västerås Cathedral, Västerås Castle, Västmanland Theater, Storkyrkan and S:ta Clara Church in Stockholm.
Marta Cecilia has received several scholarships, including from Joel Berglund’s Scholarship Fund, Konserthusets vänner i Västerås, the Jaderska Music Fund, and the Landskrona Cultural Scholarship.
She won the Opera Society Friends of Skåne’s singing competition in November 2022. In October 2022, she participated in the final of the Wagner Society’s Singer/Bayreuth Competition in Gothenburg, where she received an honorable second place. Marta Cecilia was also named a semi-finalist in Havets röst competition held in Åland at the end of 2023.
In 2022 and 2023, Marta Cecilia was selected to participate in the Lachine International Vocal Academy in Canada, where she spent her summers further deepening her knowledge of classical music.
